DeckCraft is a free, open-source presentation app that recreates the Microsoft PowerPoint workflow. The ArtCraft team built it in Rust; it runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD and in the browser, so you can use DeckCraft online — it opens with a sample deck.
What it can do
- Make decks: slide masters and eleven layouts with inheriting placeholders, eight original themes, sections, notes, comments, headers and footers, custom slide sizes.
- Draw: 150+ preset shapes with adjust handles, glued connectors, freeform tools, merge shapes, gradient, picture and pattern fills, shadows, glow and reflections.
- Write: in-place text editing with full font and paragraph formatting, bullets, columns, autofit and hyperlinks.
- Add content: pictures with crop and corrections, styled tables, charts, SmartArt basics, audio and video.
- Present: transitions including Morph, entrance, emphasis, exit and motion-path animations, full-screen slide show and presenter view.
- Exchange files: .pptx in and out; PDF of slides, notes pages or handouts with selectable text; PNG, JPEG and outlines; AutoRecover.
Where it stands
DeckCraft is in alpha, heading for beta. Its authors measure 79% of PowerPoint's features by breadth (92% of the core ones) and estimate it is about 55% of the way to replacing PowerPoint for real work.
DeckCraft vs PowerPoint, Google Slides and Impress
PowerPoint is the standard and needs Microsoft 365. Google Slides is free and collaborative but lives in Google's cloud. LibreOffice Impress is free and open source but desktop-only. DeckCraft is open source, PowerPoint-shaped, keeps decks on your device and runs in a browser.
